Executive Committee

President - Prof. Bryanne Barnett -
Executive Committee Pic Professional Profile:

Professor Barnett has a postgraduate degree from the University of New South Wales, and held a Chair of Perinatal and Infant Psychiatry at that University. The topic of her doctoral thesis was "Maternal anxiety and its effects on parenting and child development". She is currently Senior Perinatal and Infant Psychiatrist in the Infant, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services of Sydney South West Area Health Service. She is Chair of the Board of Karitane, caring for families, an organisation providing services state-wide for families with children up to 5 years old.

Bryanne is a foundation member and Past President of the Australian Association for Infant Mental Health, the Australian Society for Psychosocial Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and the Australasian Branch of the Marce Society.

Bryanne’s key interests are research and services relating to early intervention , prevention and health promotion. She has published extensively on these issues. South Western Sydney was the lead agency for the first five years of The Integrated Perinatal Care Program (IPC) which aims to ensure more comprehensive care, including social and emotional wellbeing as well as physical aspects, is offered to pregnant and postnatal women.

She was involved with Stage 1 of the ‘beyondblue’ National Depression Initiative’s Postnatal Depression Program and is currently Deputy Director of Stage 2 of the program, which will produce a National Action Plan for enhancing Perinatal Mental Health in all States and Territories of Australia. She has a particular interest in ensuring prevention and early intervention strategies extend into culturally diverse and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Bryanne was awarded an AM in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

President's Duties: The President, who will also be the Chairman of the Executive Committee, will be elected for a period of two years and will remain on the Executive Committee as Past President for a further two years.

 
Treasurer - Dr. Paula  Brownsett - MD

Treasurer's Duties: The Treasurer will be elected for a period of four years. Duties will be to maintain proper bank accounts on behalf of the Society, keep proper accounts of the Society's transactions and present the annual accounts of the Society duly audited, to the ordinary membership of the Biennial General Meeting

Secretary's Duties: The Secretary will be elected for a period of four years. The Secretary of the Society will keep proper records of all business meetings of the Society which will be open to inspection on request by any member.

The Information Editor will circulate members with a Newsletter at least twice a year, informing them of the activities of the Society, and will be responsible for other forms of dissemination of informtion.

 
Co-Information Editor - Ms Nine M-C Glangeaud - Psychol-Researcher
Executive Committee Pic Professional Profile:
Nine Glangeaud-Freudenthal was trained as a biochemist (Ph.D.) and as a psychologist (DESS). She is a Permanent Research Fellow at the French Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), and, since 1992, is working at the Unit of Epidemiological Research on Perinatal Health and Women's Health (INSERM U149-IFR69). http://ifr69.vjf.inserm.fr/~webifr/u149/ifr_U149.html
She was a founding member of the Société Marcé Francophone (SMF) in 1998 and is its present Secretary.http://smf.dyadel.net/

Her two main themes of research are: risk factors for perinatal mood disorders (PND, Blues, Anxiety), and pathways to mental health care.
She has undertaken several follow-up studies of women's mental health during the perinatal period and had participated as a member of the project management team in the Transcultural Study on Postnatal Depression directed by the late Professor Channi Kumar (TCS-PND Study; 1998-2001).
Since 1999, she is a co-ordinator of researches about Mother-Baby joint admissions to a Mother-Baby Units in France and Belgium.

Immediate Past President - Dr. Carol Henshaw - MD FRCPsych
Executive Committee Pic Professional Profile:
Carol Henshaw MD FRCPsych holds a joint appointment as Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry at the School of Medicine, Keele University, UK and Consultant Psychiatrist at Cheshire & Wirral Partnership NHS Trust.
 
She has research and clinical interests in perinatal psychiatry and menstrual mood disorders and has published in these areas.
 
Dr Henshaw chairs the Keele Perinatal Mental Health Education Unit steering committee and is co-authoring a textbook on perinatal psychiatry.
 
She has experience in teaching a wide range of health professionals on childbearing-related mental illness and is a Member of the Institute of Teaching & Learning by assessment.
